Some time back, my colleagues came back from a meeting at Astro office and was excited about a lala clam dish they had for lunch. Marisa Mey was talking about it almost every other day but the restaurant is too far for us to head to during our short one-hour lunch break. How many rules can we break in the bank? Close to zero. But we do break them once a blue moon.
As she talked more about other dishes served at the restaurant, I had a rough idea of which one she was talking about. It sounded 90% like the one we always go to near Grandma's house. It's the family gathering restaurant, Yoke Heng Restaurant, where family and relatives who visited my Grandma in the evening would bring her there for dinner. Grandma doesn't seem to be bored of the food despite her frequent visit.
Yoke Heng Restaurand is situated No33, Jalan SR8/4, Taman Putra Indah, Serdang Raya, Seri Kembangan, Selangor. It's very close to Astro office at Bukit Jalil. It is opened for the lunch rush hours (11am to 2.30pm) and dinnertime (5.30pm - 10.30pm). As far as I know, this is a family-business restaurant. The father is the cook, the mother takes care of cashier, the son takes order and everyone else runs the restaurant together. Thus, you'll feel a homely welcome as you walk into the place.
One of my favourite dishes includes the
Honey Pork Ribs served in a foil packet. This dish is to-die-for if you enjoy the art of eating pork ribs and the richness of honey sweetness. Well marinated in generous honey sauce, the pork ribs are wrapped into a foil packet to captivate the flavours when put over the stove. The meat is tender and soft while the honey is simply irresistible. It's a sin to have too much of this dish, yet it's the only way pork ribs are served in this restaurant.
Next up on the plate, the one dish all my colleagues are crazy about,
Kam Heong Lala Clams. Perhaps I got used to eating it all the time that when it turned out to be this dish that is driving my colleagues all the way from KL city to Seri Kembangan during one of our lunch hours, I was disappointed. But they were ordering two huge plates of them as if the clams were never enough; that's when it got exciting to dig into these clams. The whole phenomena of having each other eating as much as possible was overwhelming. It's a signature dish not to be forgotten when you step into the restaurant.
Here's a dish that people can either love so very much or dislike it at all, depending on individual tastebud. It looks like a kind of soup or porridge but in actual fact, it is
Claypot Lou Shi Fun. It's a must-order when it comes to sitting down for a meal with my Grandma. Probably cause the noodle itself is soft and smooth and very gentle to your consumption. It puts a smile on the old folks who can simply enjoy this dish as it is. Better eat it while it's hot though, because it tends to get lumpy and thick when it cools down.
After the brief introduction of all the best must-try of the restaurant, here's one extra dish that could make it to your table -
Ginger Stir Fry Fish Slices. No bones, no fishy smell, no mess. You'll be able to appreciate the tender sweetness of the fish as it is well brought out by the ginger slices. Garnished with spring onion to heighten the flavour, this dish goes perfectly well with rice.
Remember to try out their
Fried Rice and
Stir Fry Green Vegetables. Their greens are always so fresh, I thought that they might have a vegetable farm at the back of their house. Good stuffs at affordable prices. Hope to see you guys there when I have dinner with my Grandma one of these days. And remember to say hi to us.
