TeoChew Porridge Restaurant

It's an opportunity that my family never give up on when it comes to festive seasons. With the citizens of Klang Valley all gone home to the countryside, we take on the highways to the heart of KL for some of the best food which we have been craving for. Just a 5-minutes drive, the traffic is clear as crystal, as we enter Pudu Raya searching for that one restaurant which we last ate three years ago. Introducing... TeoChew Porridge Restaurant.

Situated behind Berjaya Times Square and across Pudu Jail itself, TeoChew Porridge Restaurant is an established place that serves the classic homecook dishes of TeoChew. Along the same shoplot, you will notice other TeoChew porridge restaurants; some with nice chairs and tables while others with modern decors. Don't be tempted by their looks, their food cannot be compared with the authentic taste offered by TeoChew Porridge Restaurant. Make sure you see that signage (above) before you enter to make sure you are eating in one of the best restaurants on the street - Jalan Changkat Thambi Dollah.

Looking at the different types of dishes offered to go with the porridge, I never thought that one could have so many varieties when it comes to choosing something to go with your porridge. Grandma used to serve plain salted fish with peanuts when we had porridge for lunch. Standing at the stall this morning, I felt overwhelmed with the abundant choices.

You'll notice some stuffs such as stew intestines, sourish pork leg, assam kampung fishes and chicken neck stew, which do not appeal to the majority of young people these days. But if you do enjoy this kinds of food, this is the perfect place for you to indulge in them. The homecook style would definitely enhance your dining experience.

Here's the backbone of its success: TeoChew style porridge. Three words to describe it - Soft, Smooth and Light. They serve rice too.

Our breakfast choices this morning were simple as we are heading out for lunch later in the afternoon. So dad chose Salted Vege, Assam Fish, Stew Intestines and Mui Choy. Simple meal to begin the day with. Here's a closer look at some of my favourites.

Simple porridge, simple dishes, simple interior settings - bound to keep you coming back for more. The restaurant is opened from 11am till 5am (yes, almost around the clock), no excuse not to grab a meal there one of these days now. Have a great day, people!
