Salem Falls

Another great one from Jodi Picoult! Yes, her writing style has not changed. And her plotting strategy is almost always the same. But her novels are worth reading because it highlights the important issue of humanity. Her strength lies in writing contradiction subjects. And she writes them well.

Salem Falls is a story about Jack and Addie; A typical romance novel that talks more about the issues of the soul than the hearts falling heads over heels for one another's. Jack is the victim of a sexual assault, yet he has to spend his time in the prison for something he has not commit. Addie has just lost her mother and daughter, she doubts if she would ever love someone again. When the two personalities meet one another, Cupid Angel works its magic. Love is woven with just one thread and as readers, we wonder if that thread is strong enough to pull them through the challenges ahead.

My sister has once fallen in love with Jodi Picoult's writing. Then two novels later, she gave up on them. She couldn't even finish reading just one of her novels within a year. She thinks it is hard to read. Drama is slow, yes. Suspense is never there, yes. But there is always human. So if you love drama and suspense, go pick another book; With Jodi Picoult, you could almost guess 99% of the ending accurately just from reading the first two chapters. But if you enjoy a good story about human and the contradiction in our hearts, Salem Falls is one book you must grab. Along with it, the rest of the stories that Jodi Picoult has to offer to you - her readers.
