Spider Lilies
A love.
The secret.
A stronger denial deep within.
Spider Lilies is a very emotional-engaging story that touches the heart as much as it touches the conscious mind. It takes on a different wave of telling a love story. It's not so much of the gender whom are in love, rather the story focuses on the element of love itself. The things that love makes us do, the words that love makes us say, the decision that love leads us into - these are the elements that make Spider Lilies an impactful story of a wonderful love.
Starring Rainie Yang and Isabella Leong, this story begins with the surface of secrets. The secret which Takeko kept to herself while bringing up her little brother. The secret which Jade kept to herself while coping with the lost of a motherly love. The secret which both of them shared one fateful night in the past. And the one thing that remains despite it all is the permanent tattoo on their skins.
At first I really doubted if Rainie Yang was the perfect candidate for this film. As I watched on, I realised that she is perfect for this role because her physical appearance brings out so much of the character. So much of what needs to be brought out so that the character may live in the minds of the audience. And so did Isabella Leong. I didn't expect to be awed by her acting skills but she is good, really good. I love the way she expresses through facial expressions. She has leveraged on her sharp facial features to bring out so much more for the audience. To me, she is a beautiful woman, a strong one at that.
Listen to the theme song of this movie. It would really touch your heart. The next few minutes after the credits rolled up, I simply played the the last few minutes over and over again just to listen to the song. It's very heartwarming. It makes me want to cry and smile at the same time. The irony of love, the power that lies within - Love is a bittersweet thing.
