Mad Detective


Three words: Confusing. Draggy. And boring.

An extract from Wikipedia is more than enough for this review. If anything, I would say, "Totally avoid watching this movie."

Mad Detective (Chinese: 神探; pinyin: Shen tan; Cantonese Yale: Sun taam) is a 2007 Hong Kong crime thriller film produced and directed by Johnnie To and Wai Ka-Fai, and starring Lau Ching-Wan as a schizophrenic, former police inspector, who decides to come out of retirement to help a rookie cop (Andy On) solve a complex murder case, involving a missing colleague and a suspected cop (Lam Ka-Tung) suffering from a form of multiple personality disorder.

Mad Detective was screened at the 64th Venice International Film Festival, and later premiered at the 2007 Toronto International Film Festival, before being released in Hong Kong on November 29, 2007. Despite being awarded a Category III rating, the film was a box office success in Hong Kong.
