Waris Jari Hantu
Synopsis from Wikipedia
Tok Wan Rimau, the custodian of the spiritual tiger, is searching for a female heir to inherit her powers. Tina (Maya Karin) and Ari (Rusdi Ramli) are the relatives of Tok Wan. They are also best friends. Tok Wan's spiritual tiger protects her family and their village from harm. Tina, who is in love with Ari, nurtures her secret dream of marrying him even though the villagers often ridicule the effeminate Ari as a sissy. Deeply traumatized by these insults, Ari continues to hide behind his close relationship with Tina. Despite parental objections, Tina seems destined to be the next in line as custodian of the mystical tiger. But Ari steps in, offering himself instead...
The character played by Rusdi Ramli was indeed an impressive job. It's probably the first time I actually told myself that perhaps (just perhaps) he can really act afterall. Waris Jari Hantu has allowed him to reflect another part of acting skills I never knew he has. The character of Ari allows him to portray various facial expressions, which he has proven the ability to adapt to the variety. I'll keep a look out for Rusdi Ramli in his up-coming appearances if I were you.
The idea of a spiritual tiger living in the village as a guardian guarding the people is not new. However, in this story, the director managed to bring out the idea in a more refreshing approach that makes the entire story believable and engaging. It talks about growing up as a child, friendships, lovers, family - It's primarily focused on us, human. And that's the refreshing element. The spiritual tiger is just a supporting idea to bring across important messages about life. That's why this is one worth watching local movie we should not miss!
