Entangled - The Musical

This review is a little late, but better late than never. I went for a musical play at Universiti Malaya during the Easter Week. It's known as Entangled. A very good and creative title indeed. A friend invited me and after watching their trailer promo, I thought it would be interesting to watch because it seems to have a very good plot.

Yes, a good plot it has, but the cast totally sucks. Sorry to say this but none of them can act, worst still they can't sing either. It is a musical. The least you can promise audience is a cast that is capable of singing decently. The off-keys and wrong-pitching were so annoying, I wished the play would quickly end.

And the songs, omigosh, the lyrics felt as if words were forced into the tunes just because a story needed to be told through them. Everything was just not right. The only thing I enjoyed is the storyline which was badly presented anyway. But as a writer, I grasped what the message it and the story which they are trying to sell.

Here's a suggestion:
Perhaps try a play without musical? Come on, don't sing when you can't. If it's just one bad singer, it's still fine. But 90% of the cast not singing decently good? Quite a pain to the ears, you know.

Anyway, good job for Jonathan Chu, the guy who put the whole thing together. Thank God he saved the song by giving it a good presentation at the end of the play. His voice really did the song justice. You are awesome on the piano, dude!
