Marshmallows for Breakfast
Book title: Marshmallows For Breakfast
Author: Dorothy Koomson
Amount of pages: 440
This is one darn good book. I was hooked from page one and took less than 3 days to finish reading. And I can't wait to get the rest of Dorothy Koomson's books. She writes good.
Kendra Tamale returns to England after experiencing a trauma in Australia expecting to start anew with a different atmosphere. She rents a room from Kyle, a man who is in the middle of divorce and lives with two kids, Summer and Jaxon. As much as she wants to be alone, the kids would not give her the space and time she needs. Kendra finds herself mothering the kids as Kyle learns how to be a single parent. But that doesn't mean the painful secret that she hides in the closet will not come out and surprise her.
Why is the title 'Marshmallows for Breakfast'? That's because Kendra prepares marshmallows for breakfast every Saturday and seems to be the only one who allows the kids to have marshmallows for breakfast.
With sprinkles of love, friendships, career and self-loving, this book is a must-read. The language used is simple, the scenes nicely painted through simple words, and the characters are so lovable. It's as if you are in the shoes of Kendra herself. And it's just beautiful.
