Artemis Fowl - Book 1
"A good recommendation from a good friend; Now I am dying to read the rest of the series."
I am not a fan of fantasy stories. I find Harry Potter a hard read, and so does books that tells of fairies, angels, devils, gnomes and weird creatures. My imagination mind is low when it comes to fantasy. But Irish writer Eoin Colfer won my bet with the first book of Artemic Fowl. I finished reading the whole book in a seating and it was absolute!
Synopsis from BookRags
Artemis Fowl tells the tale of a twelve-year-old genius, a criminal mastermind who wants to acquire fairy gold in order to replenish his family's fortunes. Bringing together both the human and fairy worlds, Colfer writes about Artemis's quest for the gold and how the fairies try to prevent him from gaining their riches.
Artemis travels to Ho Chi Minh City with his manservant, Butler, to meet with an informant about the Book, which tells about the history of the fairies and spells out their rules and regulations for behavior. Led to a sprite, Artemis tricks her into letting him look at her Book for thirty minutes. Butler takes a photo of each page so that they can decipher it later. Back in Ireland at Fowl Manor, Artemis tries various means to decode the pages. He finally figures.....
The characterisation of every character in the story is so real and believable, you are drawn into their shoes as you walk through the stories from their point of view. You feel what they feel, you hear what they hear, and if you have a wild imagination, you can even think what they think before you read the next sentence. Being drawn into the world through characters is a very important element to making the success of a story, and it's perfectly conquered in this book.
