The Golden Compass

Crap! That was just the trailer of what was to come in The Golden Compass 2 - assuming that they are going to produce the second chronicle soon.

The Golden Compass is based on a simple backbone - the compass that tells the truth and links the world. Not many people could read the compass. Those that have the ability to do so are always in danger because the protagonists and antagonists are after them for the power to conquer the world. This includes Lyra, an orphan who is curious about life and its universe.

The story unfolds slow and confusing in the beginning, but slowly picked up speed as the golden compass finally found its way into Lyra's hand. With it, she meant to save her friend who was kidnapped by Gobblers and to discover who her father is. In her journey, she made new friends who helped her along the way. Yet at the end of the movie, it felt as if her journey has only just begun.

I am especially enthralled by the idea of having a deamon to sustain life; that everything that happens to our deamon would happen to us; that we could feel what another creature feels; that we would never be alone because companionship would always be there for us to take granted of. These days, people always claim that they are lonely. Well, they won't be if they have deamon just like people in the movie does.

The Golden Compass holds a magical sensation to it that is fictional yet believable. Compared to The Chronicles of Narnia, this movie requires a higher level of understanding before one can grasp the idea that holds it to its form. Until you know what is going on, you will not enjoy the movie. The question is, would you be able to watch on until you start understanding?
