Vantage Point
Synopsis from Cinema Online
Thomas Barnes (Dennis Quaid) and Kent Taylor (Matthew Fox) are Secret Service agents assigned to protect President Ashton (William Hurt) at a landmark summit on the global war on terror. When President Ashton is shot moments after his arrival in Spain, chaos ensues. In the crowd is Howard Lewis (Forest Whitaker), an American tourist video taping the event to show his kids. There is also Rex (Sigourney Weaver) an American TV news producer who is reporting on the conference. We follow each person's perspective of the same 15 minutes before and immediately after the shooting to get to the terrifying truth behind the assassination attempt.
Imagine an one-hour CSI scene replayed six times in different angles and perspectives before the finale comes. Imagine listening to 50% of a script more than five times in one single movie. Imagine watching the entire hour waiting for the climax, except that it does not come. Imagine the movie coming to an end and you thought it was only just beginning.
That's how it felt like when I came out of the cinema after watching Vantage Point. It feels incomplete, like something is amiss within the 90-minutes frame. I think they forgot their secret ingredient when they were filming. Or perhaps it is meant to be that way.
Story was well written but somehow, execution-wise lacking of that certain UMPHH which I was expecting. Afterall, it is supposed to be an action movie. For now, it feels like a documentary of an event.
