Yakitate! Japan

This is the best manga I have read so far and it's bongus! Totally addicted. Totally awesome. Totally well-driven. I ended up reading 15 chapters a day minimum because the story is so addictive. And you don't have to like pastry to fall in love with this manga, it's generally lovable because of the characters and focus on baking.

Yakitate! Japan is a story about Azuma, a young guy who fell in love with the world of baking when his sister has proven to him that bread is as good as rice (the staple food of Japan). She brought him to meet a man who was an expert in bread baking and Azuma's passion for bread burns in his heart. After they managed to convince their grandfather that bread can taste as good as rice, Azuma sets out to create 'Japan' - a bread original Japan bread that could be own by the country. It's sort of like French bread, New York sandwich... and in comes, Japan bread.

The adventure of Azuma on his journey to make 'Japan' is an exciting one... not because Azuma was a genius in bread making, it was the sidekicks of this manga that brought the story forward all the time. Azuma has the talents and capabilities to make bread that surpasses many bread artisans but his character is a boring one. Minus his determination and brilliant ideas, he is a boring character that would drive you to sleep. Thank god for other characters, the manga became addictive.

Azuma is the center of the story, but the interesting fella that drives the plot ahead is Kawachi. He is much more handsome compared to Azuma - tall and handsome with a well-shaped body. He started off as Azuma's rival until he realises that he could never be as good as him. Kawachi is not much of a baker but when he puts his heart to it, he could create wonder. The plus point to his character is his sillyness.

He is so silly and lame, I can't help but smile a little. It's his sillyness that push the story forward all the time. The mistakes he does that require Azuma to come to rescue. The way he almost ruin Azuma's creation because of his doubts on his friend. This manga focuses more than bread making, it's about friendship and love.

You may find the mini plots predictive because Azuma keeps winning in every competition. But it's how he wins them that is addictive. Could a person really be such a genius?

Check it out yourself!
