Love and Other Disasters

This film has the ambience of one of those boring ones where you tell yourself, "Darn, this is boring!" However, behind this style of films is the greatest secret of all - a message for human beings about living. For the case of Love and Other Disasters, it's about love in various forms.

There are two best friends in this movie - the guy's name is Peter (starred by Matthew Rhys) and the girl's name is Jacks (starred by Brittany Murphy). Why are they best friends? It's because Peter is gay. So you'll find a lot of scenes where Jacks is naked in the house in which they were renting; naked as in the censored parts are covered with her holding a magazine or bubbles in the tub.

So one day, Jacks meet a guy named Paolo (starred by Santiago Cabrera) and thinks that he would make an ideal love partner for Peter. Thus, she sets them up for dinner. That night while the guys are getting to know each other, Peter finds out that Paolo was not a gay. In fact, Paolo has fallen in love with Jacks. But every time he tries to tell her so, she shoves him aside and treated him as a buddy. She really likes Paolo as a friend and even suggested marriage so that Paolo can stay in the country. That's until she finds out that he isn't a gay afterall.

Yes, it's a complicated love affair. But once you capture the juice of it, you will realised that it's a crystal clear plot between who is in love with who, etc.

Personally, I am amazed at the bond that Jacks and Peter share as best friends. It would be good to have a guy as my best friend. The opposite sex who you can share your secrets with, who will be your protector when other guys hurt you, who will teach you more about the opposite sex, etc. What more can a person ask for?

Love the concept. Definitely worth watching. Unless you are comparing this to romance comedy such as The Wedding Planner, this movie is definitely worth spending time for.

P/s: I think Brittany Murphy looks totally hot in this movie... and nope, I am not a bisexual or lesbian or any of that sort. I am straight!
