Ratatouille
It's the name of a dish and like Remy the rat, I wondered who ever thought of naming a dish with the word 'rat' in it. FOOD and RAT... don't blend. The film, however, did a great job! It's way better than Surf's Up, Nemo, and Incredibles. Finally, something that adults can relate to while bringing the kids to the cinemas.
I am not going to elaborate on the storyline - you guys should know it by now. Otherwise, you can check the synopsis taken from IMDB below.
Synopsis from IMDB
Remy is a rat, constantly risking life in an expensive French restaurant because of his love of good food, as well as a desire to become a chef. Yet, obviously, this is a rather tough dream for a rat. But opportunity knocks when a young boy, who desperately needs to keep his job at the restaurant, despite his lack of cooking abilities, discovers and partners the young Remy. Its up to the two of them to avoid the insane head chef, bring the rest of Remy's family up to his standards, win his partner a girl, and, of course, produce the finest Ratatouille in all of France.
I am impressed with the virtual kitchen in the film. It looks real, feels real and definitely functions as if you can pluck people into the place and they can start cooking. The details given to the scenes, the food, the placement, even the garnishing on each dish in the film is totally mind-blowing. You feel like eating the plate of omelette which Remy served to Linguini.
I've got the priviledge to watch this movie firsthand during a press screening. Then I caught the behind-the-scenes podcast on television. I am amused by how the film is created - how the director tossed a chef into the pool just to capture the essence of water dripping down the body, and how the entire crew has to visit a kitchen and learn how food is being prepared (the way knife slices and garnish are dashed on meals). When a film director is passionate about his work, it shines through.
A highly recommended choice from me to you. You have nothing to lose but perhaps the untouched popcorns you bought - you'll be busy laughing as you are drawn into the film. Bring your kids along and have a jolly entertained family time!
DID YOU KNOW THAT...Ratatouille is a southern French dish made from eggplant, zucchini, onions, peppers, tomatoes, and garlic. There are many different variations, and today you can find ratatouille pies, soups, and quiches. (taken from http://emr.cs.iit.edu/~reingold/ruths-kitchen/recipes/sides/ratatouille.html)
